ThinkSono Receives FDA Clearance for the World's First AI-Powered Ultrasound Assistance Software for Thrombosis Diagnosis
Potsdam - August 2026. The Potsdam-based MedTech startup ThinkSono, developer of the world’s first AI-powered software for detecting deep vein thrombosis (DVT), recently announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted clearance for ThinkSono Guidance. This AI-powered software guides medical personnel without specialized ultrasound training in acquiring vascular ultrasound images in real time. According to the company, this is the first FDA-approved AI-based ultrasound assistance software for this application.
CEO and co-founder Fouad Al-Noor explained that the clearance enables nurses and other medical staff to capture the images needed for an assessment directly at the patient’s bedside and have them evaluated remotely by specialists within a few minutes. This could significantly improve access to TVT diagnostics.
The ThinkSono Guidance mobile app connects to compatible portable ultrasound devices and helps users correctly position the ultrasound transducer and capture the necessary image sequences through AI-based real-time instructions.
ThinkSono is currently preparing for the commercial launch of the solution in the United States, positioning itself as a pioneer in smart ultrasound solutions designed to improve patient care worldwide.
Brandenburg Kapital has been supporting the development of ThinkSono GmbH as an investor since 2020.
